H is a celebratory story. In the beginning readers are drawn into the world, of what appears to be a mentally challenged 12 yr old based on our biases, which are supplemented by the letters of the authority fiqures in the novel- Ben and Peggy Sherman, Dr, Dysan and his camp counselors.
Such influences cause the audience to at first sympathize with Benjamin who seemed to spend most of his time preoccupied in the Fantasy world of Eliot and Elliottown.
We are however, able to identify with him, because while growing up, most of us had an "imaginary' childhood friend (s), or would escape to a world of fantasies when we couldn't cope with life as it is.
We see how Ben manipulates the "system" at his own disposal, which ultimately revealed that he was just being a 12 yr old boy, seeing and accepting his world in his own time
